Bayabas, anyone?

So I did my weekly grocery shopping today, and guess what I saw? Guavas. I was about to bag a handful when I saw the sticker price: $1.99 EACH! A fruit that I used to pick off a tree for FREE when I was a kid was going to cost me almost two dollars apop? It just didn't sit right with me to pay that much so I put everything back.

So to my friends in the Philippines, here's my Christmas wish: padal-i ko'g bayabas, bi?

Hallo neneng!! So glad your blog is alive!! First of all, I love your Thanksgiving photos! Haskang dakoa sa turkey! And Jakob looks so big na....

I know what you mean about the bayabas. Maayo gani diha, naa maski mahal. Diri, as in, zero gyud. Sa among balay sa Marawi, we have 2 guava trees and a rambutan tree. Waaah...

Hope to speak to you again soon!

Yes, my blog has awaken! Wala lang nako gi-balita kay I always end up not writing whenever I tell people about it.

Dili lang bayabas ang mahal diri--naa pa gyud balimbing, singkamas, ug guyabano. Mahal kaayo silang tanan!

Chatyousoon!!!

Diri kay haskang mahala sa avocado. Which is annoying because I love it!

Pero sa mga prutas, wala kaayo sila "exotic" na choices. R says I need to go to Chinatown or oriental supermarkets for that kinda stuff.

You know what I am craving for right now? Sampalok candy!

I'm sure there's a Filipino store somewhere there. If you can't find any, let me know coz I can get sampalok candy here and send you some.

Know what I'm craving? La-uya and kinilaw.

What is a la-uya?

it's a beef soup my lola would cook on sundays. it's especially good on rainy days.

I think I know that. It's got beef cooked very slowly, lot of ginger and some leafy veg? Lami kaayo ang sabaw? Mao ba na sha? or am i thinking of something else?

I miss my mom's arroz caldo and her beef steak with ampalaya.

yummm

We even have those native Guava tree na taas kayo. Pag ma bored ko sa balay, mokat-kat ra ko sa bayabas ug mag basa ug libro didto sa taas.
